Margaret A. Regan Professor of Pulmonary Inflammation
Improving lung health
Inflammation is an important mechanism used by the body as a defense against infection and other noxious stimuli. As National Jewish Health strives to continue defining the causes of and possible cures for lung diseases, the study of pulmonary inflammation is crucial. By funding this professorship, Margaret A. Regan helps National Jewish Health maintain its leadership in the research and treatment of lung disease.
Peter M. Henson, PhD, completed his training in veterinary medicine and bacteriology at Edinburgh University in Scotland. In 1967, he earned his doctorate in immunology from the University of Cambridge in England. His fellowship training was with the Department of Experimental Pathology at Scripps Clinic and Research Foundation in La Jolla, California, where he stayed on as faculty until joining National Jewish Health in 1977 as Director of Research in the Pediatrics Department. He is the Margaret A. Regan Professor of Pulmonary Inflammation.
Dr. Henson continues his work in basic mechanisms of inflammatory disease at National Jewish Health as Professor and also holds the position of Professor in pathology, immunology, pharmacology and medicine at the University of Colorado Denver. He is a member of various medical organizations and has received numerous awards and honors in his field. Dr. Henson has published more than 400 articles in medical and scientific journals.
Dr. Henson received an honorary Doctorate in Medicine in 2000 from the University of Edinburgh. In 2005, Dr. Henson was awarded the honor of presenting the J. Burns Amberson Lecture at the American Thoracic Society conference, which is awarded to a professional with a career of major lifetime contributions to clinical or basic pulmonary research and/or clinical practice.
