Message from National Campaign Chairs
Asthma, allergies, COPD/emphysema and other respiratory, allergic and immune-system diseases pose major public-health problems in this country, devastating millions of lives and costing businesses and taxpayers billions of dollars.
National Jewish Health is internationally renowned for its research breakthroughs, stellar patient care and world-class education and training programs. It is the nation’s number one respiratory hospital (U.S. News & World Report) and is among the top 22 institutions in the world for influential research in biology, biochemistry, molecular biology, genetics and immunology (out of thousands of research institutions including pharmaceutical companies). Despite its many successes however, National Jewish Health faces major challenges. Our patient-care programs are growing, causing our clinics to be very congested, leading to prolonged waiting times and other inefficiencies. The continued growth of our research programs has severely taxed our existing research space, preventing expansion of programs and the recruitment of new scientists.
To meet these challenges and to help more patients, our faculty, administration and National Advisory Council initiated extensive discussion and planning and have identified vital objectives to expand facilities and faculty.
These goals will require a significant investment. We have set a fundraising goal for the Road Ahead Campaign to raise $29.2 million between 2005 and 2007.
We are proud and honored to serve as National Chairmen of this campaign. We invite you to join with us and the many donors around the country who support National Jewish Health.
