Danielle and Her Mom’s Story

Danielle arrived in the Fall of 2006 to attend Kindergarten at the National Jewish Kunsberg School, a unique day program for chronically ill children. On her first day, she was so weak she could not walk from the parking lot to the school. She was on a high level of oxygen 24 hours a day, rarely spoke and was extremely introverted. After 6 months at Kunsberg her oxygen usage dropped to a minimal level, and not only could she walk into school on her own, but she swims, runs and plays – all while pulling her oxygen tank. She is now a smiling seven-year old who easily chats with visitors while walking around the halls of the school with her new friends.

In talking to Danielle’s mom about their experience with Kunsberg, she positively glows. “Kunsberg is a life-altering place that we are so blessed to have found. Danielle’s teachers don’t pity her, they challenge and support her. If she were in a typical school I would need to take time off of my job to spend time in her classroom to make sure she was okay, but the teachers and nurses take such incredible care of her that we all have more confidence. It has made a huge difference in ALL of our lives.”
