Division of Radiology

John Newell Jr., MD

John D Newell, Jr, MD
Division Head

What do we do? The Division of Radiology at National Jewish Health currently comprises four fellowship trained cardiothoracic radiologists with over 80 years combined experience in thoracic radiology. We interpret chest radiographs, chest CT scans, and other thoracic and nonthoracic images. Our particular expertise and international reputation is in interpretation of high resolution chest CT for diffuse lung disease. We are also expert in interpretation of cardiac CT and MR studies. We perform ILO B- reads to screen for occupational lung disease.

Why National Jewish Health? The Division has an active teaching program for radiology residents, and pulmonary and radiology fellows.  Interdisciplinary dialogue and education is a core value of the division, and we conduct numerous interdisciplinary conferences, in interstitial lung disease, occupational and environmental lung disease, mycobacterial disease, thoracic surgery and radiologic-pathologic correlation.

The Division has an active research program in thoracic imaging, with a particular focus on high resolution CT of diffuse lung disease and quantitative imaging. Currently funded research projects include quantification of asthma, quantification of interstitial lung disease and screening for lung cancer.
