Statin Use in COPD

Trial Objective:

The purpose of this study is to determine if taking 40 mgs of simvastatin daily for at least one year will reduce the frequency and/or severity of COPD flare-ups.

Participation involves visits to the clinic every three months with monthly phone calls in-between.  Blood work, breathing tests and questionnaires will be done at clinic visits.

Who Can Participate:

Qualifications include:

  • Adults between 40 and 80 years of age with COPD
  • Current or former smoker
  • On oxygen or have been treated for a COPD flare-up in the past year
  • Not on a statin medication
